Buying A New
Air Conditioning Unit
Here are some important questions every consumer should ask before buying a new comfort system for their home.
"If I buy a more efficient unit, can I buy a smaller one?" The answer is, probably not. A more efficient unit does not mean it will produce more capacity. It only means the new unit will operate more efficiently and with less energy cost when compared to the old unit.
If you see an advertised price, ask yourself, "Does the price include installation? What does installation cost? Do I really want to install that unit myself? Is the unit covered by warranty if I install it?" These are important questions to answer before you buy.
When evaluating an extended warranty, ask yourself, "If something happens to the installation company, what happens to my warranty?" Some companies sell insurance policies that are not backed by the manufacturer but only by the installation company. Several installation companies have gone out of business, leaving the homeowner without protection. Factory warranties are the safest protection for the homeowner.
